REDUCE VIOLIN / GUITAR STRING BREAKAGE

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

An easy way for new string players to reduce string breakage is to learn the feel of the string tension. When tuning your instrument, learn the feel of the tension of each string. With the tip of your index finger, tap each string between the fingerboard / fretboard and the bridge. Once you have a feel of the tension, you can tune the strings of the instrument to this tension by feel. Next, you should use some type of tuner to get the true note. Do not tune too much higher or the string will snap.
This should help new students reduce string breakage.
