The other day someone brought in a Taylor 314 for evaluation. The heal on the bottom of the neck had a slight gap between it and the back. It was approximately wide enough to insert two business card. Upon consulting the Taylor Corporation, it was explained to me that this is how they build the neck and body. The gap allows for wood contraction in dry climates so that the rest of the guitar does not crack. They usually fill this gap with putty colored to blend into the finish. This problem is only cosmetic.
